Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
A man is more likely to be afraid of a woman making false claims against him so he may tend to not be as abusive towards her as a woman who is trying to show she can be the boss would be. I am not stereotyping woman in any way I am simply stating the facts that I have read on this study. Woman also have to work harder to be recognized as a strong leader and has to work twice as a man at it.
No matter if your boss is male or female there is no reason that you should ever put up with any abuse in any way from them. Here are a few tips to help you deal with a boss that is nt acting appropriately with you ...
Step2
* Don't just take *
There is no reason that you have to back down and just deal with their abusive behavior. Just because they are an authority figure in the work place gives them no reason to ever put you down, talk to you in a demeaning way, name calling, or any other form of abuse. The first thing you should do is simply talk to them about it. Maybe they are not aware of their inappropriate behavior. They may be stressed out and taking it out on you without even thinking they are doing wrong. Tell them that it bothers you and that you can work much more effectively if they can tone down their behavior. Don't be embarrassed to bring it to their attention! Someone needs to stand up to them and if they fire you over this you can always sue them for wrongful firing. Maybe they could use someone to talk to and although you are there for working only, you can make it an easier place to work if you offer a friendly ear to listen.
Step3
* Talk to their boss *
If there is someone that is above them and talking to your boss alone does not work, talk to higher management. Make a compliant about your bosses behavior and let them know what exactly your boss is doing that is inappropriate.
Step4
* Identify the specific problem *
Identify just where the problem lies and if it is in some way the way you are working. Maybe your boss is not happy with the way you are working if so then try to do your work a bit better. Of course this does not give your boss the right to be abusive, but sometimes they become frustrated with their employees continual work they put out. Finding just where the problem lays is essential in resolving the conflict with your boss. Once you have identified the area where you feel they may be mad at then talk to them about it. Ask them what you can do to improve your quality of work in their eyes and see if it is doable. Also explain to your boss that their behavior only brings you down instead of motivating you.
Step5
* Know when it is simply to much *
If their behavior is out of control then you should report them immediately. Make sure that you do not take it personal as it is their problem and not yours. If it gets out of control turn them in and wait for a response and in the mean time you can also choose to look for a new job.It may be hard to move on but sometimes it is the only thing that you can do. Make complaints to their boss or the better business bureau or the main company headquarters. Your boss should not be getting away with this behavior in any way! Talk with other employees and see if they experience similar behavior from the boss.
Step6
Bullying is not illegal and your boss is not obligated to be a nice boss, so there is not much you can do in some situations. When you are not happy somewhere sometimes it is just better to move on and find a new job. It may be difficult in the beginning but in the end you will be happy you did it.
