Everything from pictures and diplomas to posters and magazine covers adorn the interiors of many homes, offices and restaurants. There's only one problem with this trend in decorating, the damage it leaves. One way to avoid harming your paint and dry wall is to hang pieces with simple, plastic bulletin board tacks as your wall anchors.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape measurer
  • Standard bulletin board tacks
  • Step stool
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  1. Step 1

Using a tape measurer, measure from the ceiling down to the spot where your wall hanging's anchor will sit and make a light mark with a pencil. If the piece you are hanging is horizontal or heavy, it may require two measurements for two anchors, one on either side of the hanging.

  2. Step 2

Now examine the back of the object you are about to hang on the wall. If it's framed, check whether the frame has a deep edging around the outside, that would allow it to just be placed on the wall anchor. If it has a fixed backing it will require only one tack, so you will need one less wall hole. However, some frames may be too heavy for one, so you may have to use two on the edges anyway.

  3. Step 3

For a standard vertical hanging, use 1 tack. For a standard horizontal, use 2 to 4 tacks spread evenly. Check your placement before pressing the tacks into place, and gently lay the hanging on the wall. The tacks should provide strong support, are easy to readjust and leave only the tiniest pinholes on the wall.
