Young players growing up are always trying new skills which is very good if they want to advance to the next levels of the game. Some of these skills are pretty easy to perform while others are a little more of a challenge. The behind the back dribble can be one of the more challenging dribble fundamentals to master. The following is a break down on how to perform and perfect this fundamental.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • One ball
  • space
  • patience

Step1
The first step in performing the behind the back dribble is to have the player stand with feet together and just have them move the ball around their waist without dropping the ball. This works on hand eye coordination and feel for the ball. Remember to go both ways.
Step2
The second step is to have them take the ball dribble with the right hand once by their right foot catch the ball and then make it go around the waist. This action starts the simulation of actually making the ball go behind the back. Remember to go both ways again.
Step3
The third step is to have them bounce the ball by their foot, and now carry it around and just drop it in front of the opposite foot and pick it up. Remember both feet should still be together. They can do this all with using the right hand, until the ball is on the other side in front of the left foot, then the left hand should be used.
Step4
When the previous steps can be done we add the final step which is stepping with the oppositie foot and bringing the ball around the back. That is all there is to it. Now its just a matter of practice, practice, practice. Have fun and remember to always be able to use both hands and go both directions.
