How do you just throw out or give away your favorite pairs of blue jeans? They've been like your best friends. The solution: don't toss them out at all. Recycle and into new items for the whole family and enjoy them for years to come.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • Fabric paints, jewels and other embellishments
  • An old blanket or batting
  • Other fabrics
  1. Step 1

Take your jeans and cut the legs off so that the legs are about an inch below the crotch. Turn them inside out and stitch shut. Take your paints, jewels, ribbon, beads or lace and make it fancy. Add a strap of wide ribbon or use denim from one of the legs to make a shoulder strap. For a different look, attach two straps from the belt to the bottom of the legs on the back on each side to make a backpack style bag. For a third look attach your strap to the top back waistband and the opposite side of the bottom for a sling strap. A one of a kind--and free purse. Stitch up the leg bottom and cut it off low to make a tiny purse. Tear apart an old checkbook cover from the bank and make one from denim. Make it a little bigger and stitch it inside out. You can make a whole wardrobe of goodies from one pair of jeans!

  2. Step 2

Cut half the legs off the jeans. Cut up the inside of the legs of the jeans and across the crotch. Now sew the legs together in the middle on the front and back. Be sure to sew it so it's one piece in front and back. Add a super long belt that will serve as a handle. Hang it from two hooks on the back of a child's closet door and you have a great hamper or toy box.

  3. Step 3

Patch up the knees and elbows of kids' clothes on the outside before they wear out. Add a little purse for a girl or attach some blue jean fabric to the visor of a cap for a boy. You have a great outfit for no money. You can also sew designs on them and make homemade patches to decorate jackets, book bags and more! Remember the back side of denim could be used for another outfit!

  4. Step 4

Put your easel or tripod into the jeans with the legs going down the legs of the jean. Cut the legs about an inch below where the easel or tripod legs end. Turn them under a little less than an inch, add a strap and you have perfect carriers for them.

  5. Step 5

Take the jeans and stitch them shut on either side of the zipper. Now cut them in half without disturbing the stitching. Add a strap to each leg. Hang them in the garage or shed to hold the handles of rakes, hoes and other garden tools. Use them in your laundry room or pantry for mops and brooms. These are much cuter than plain household handles, and they keep things straight as well.

  6. Step 6

Cut the legs in half lengthwise. Stitch the bottoms and each side closed, stuff them with old pantyhose, fabric or stuffing and you have great draft dodgers for doors or windows. Cut the leg a little taller than your plastic pot and make an adorable cover for those ugly plant holders. You can even make sleeves for cheap plastic vases that will transform them into really funky little statement pieces.
