When lemons go on sale, it's time to stock up. If you know how to really make use of a ton of lemons, you can get quite a bargain. Here are a whole bevy of things to do with lemons besides cooking them or making lemonade.
Run dry mustard on your hands and follow with lemon juice to form a paste. Rub hands thoroughly to rid them of a fishy smell.
Step2
Use the juice of 1/2 a lemon in a cup of warm water and soak fingers to condition nails. It also softens cuticles so you can push them back more easily.
Step3
Put a dot of lemon juice on a pimple a few times a day to dry and heal it quickly. Comb it through your hair before you sunbathe to lighten hair without peroxide damage.
Step4
Deep clean your face, getting down into the pores with a lemon facial. Mix 2 tbs. of mint or thyme with the juice of half a lemon. Add to 1 qt. of boiling water and put the pan on a hot plate. Put a towel over your head and let the steam relax you and cleanse your skin for 10 minutes or so. Rinse with cold water. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil if you want to open up your sinuses at the same time.
Step5
Save a soured sponge or cleaning rag by soaking it in lemon juice. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Put a bowl with lemon juice in a still warm oven to kill cooking odors, or put it in your microwave for 1 minute on high and let it sit for 15 minutes. For soured clothes, soak them in a bucket with 1 cup of lemon juice to every gallon of water for 1 hour, then wash as usual.
Step6
Refresh lettuce that's a little too wilted by soaking it in a bowl of cold water with the juice of 1/2 a lemon. Let it stand in the fridge for about an hour. Slice apples ahead and store them safely by coating the cut surfaces with lemon juice. The apples will stay nice and white and the lemon won't change their taste. This works for pears and you can put these into fruit salads with the lemon juice on them, too.
