Things You'll Need:
- Newspaper
- Laundry tongs
- Glycerine
- Baking soda
- Aluminium foil
-
Step 1
Switch off your fridge-freezer at the wall. Prop the freezer door open and place newspaper on the floor in front, to mop up any water.
Take out any food inside, if possible put it in a cool box or wrap it in newspaper and, if there is room, put it in the fridge, as this will stay cold for several hours as long as the door is kept shut. -
Step 2
Take out any shelves and ice trays.
As the ice starts to melt, place a clean washing up bowl in the bottom of the freezer and, wearing rubber gloves, put the ice into it. This saves running to the sink with handfuls of ice and avoids the hazard of a wet floor.
A pair of laundry tongs will reach those difficult corners. -
Step 3
After defrosting the freezer, brush with a little glycerine over the inside. Next time the ice will fall of in sheets and reduce defrosting time.
To stop ice-trays from sticking in the ice-box, put a piece of aluminium foil underneath. -
Step 4
To keep the inside of the fridge fresh when you've finished cleaning, wipe it out with a little cold water containing baking soda.
-
Step 5
Switch you fridge-freezer back on at the wall!
