How to Clear the Dropdown Address Bar in Mozilla Firefox

For security and privacy's sake, you might want to clear the drop-down address bar in your Firefox browser. You can do so in just a few steps. Note that these entries will not be retrievable after they're deleted.

Instructions

      Launch Firefox browser and click your cursor inside the address bar.

      Begin to type in the address that you wish to delete, but do not press "Enter" or click "Go." You will see the drop-down list auto-populate.

      Using the up or down keys on your keyboard, scroll down to the item you wish to remove from the listing.

      Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard to remove it permanently. Your browser will now be free of specific items that you wish to remove.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can simply hold down the "Delete" key in Step 4 to delete all the items.

  • You can choose for the address bar to not autopopulate with anything on the Privacy tab of the Options windows, which is accessible by clicking the "Firefox" or "Tools" menu and then clicking "Options." Simply choose "Nothing" from the "When Using the Location Bar, Suggest:" drop-down list near the bottom and then click "OK."

  • These entries will not be retrievable once deleted so exercise caution while doing so.
