Older Mac computers won't auto-defragment their hard drives. You would need software like the Disk Defrag to do it. Read on to learn how to defragment files on a Mac computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Disk Defrag
  1. Step 1

Download Disk Defrag from the Version Tracker website.

  2. Step 2

Install the program and run it.

  3. Step 3

Once that is done, select the hard drive that you wish to defrag and click on the "Defrag" button.

  4. Step 4

Your Mac will start to defragment the hard drive. You might want to leave the computer on overnight for it to complete its task.

Tips & Warnings
  • The process will take a while. It's best to do this just before going to sleep.
  • Do not defragment your drives too often as this increases wear and tear.

on 10/13/2008 You don't need to defragment files on he current Mac OS. The operating system does that by itself.
