Some sounds can be annoying.

If you don't like the sounds coming out of your Windows PC or want to turn some annoying ones off, you can do so in the Control Panel. Doing so can also optimize your computer somewhat. You can also them off program sounds and start-up sounds if you want.

Instructions

      Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."

      Click "Hardware and Sound" and then "Sound," represented by a speaker.

      Click the "Sounds" tab.

    • 4

      Click the down arrow under Sound Scheme and select "No Sounds."

    • 5

      Click any program in the Program window to turn off sounds for that particular program.

    • 6

      Click to un-check the box next to Play Windows Startup Sound to stop the sound when your computer boots.

    • 7

      Click "OK" to save your changes.

  • Experiment with other sounds or turn off more sounds as needed. Use the drop-down box to explore more Windows sounds.
