Tendonitis is caused by the tendon of a muscle being injured because the muscle is out of shape, fatigued or repeatedly moving in a way that is not natural. You can relieve the pain this injury causes.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Eliminate or limit the activity that causes the problem. You may have to change the way you perform it or eliminate it completely. If it is caused by repetitive movement, vary the way you perform the routine. If a task on your job has caused the injury, ask to be changed to a different task until the injury either heals, or find another way to do it.

  2. Step 2

Massage will stimulate circulation to the area. More blood to the injured area means more oxygen, which will allow for quicker healing.

  3. Step 3

Remember RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Rest the injured area, put ice on it, wrap it with slight pressure and keep it elevated. This helps to reduce inflammation and swelling.

  4. Step 4

When there are no further signs of swelling or inflammation, apply some heat. It increases blood flow and will help the injured area recover faster.

  5. Step 5

Eat pineapple and papaya. Both contain high levels of bromelain. Bromelain can heal injuries to the muscular and skeletal systems. Both pineapple and papaya can be eaten in their regular form, or dried and juiced.

  6. Step 6

If you take an over-the-counter remedy, make sure it is an anti-inflammatory. Tylenol is a good pain reliever, but does nothing to reduce inflammation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get all injuries and strains checked out by a physician.
  • Don't work out alone.
  • Don't overdo. Tendons take longer to heal than muscles. You may feel better, but don't push it. You can cause extensive damage that may require surgery.
