"What do you think? Money grows on trees?" How many parents say this to their children and get the response, "Well, yes! The money tree!"
Teaching your child to appreciate everything will not only make your life easier, but will help your children develop into healthy adults.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get your child(ren) involved in volunteering. There are several different organizations that will allow your children to help those less fortunate and make a difference. When seeing a harder side of life, children will realize that they are pretty fortunate.

  2. Step 2

Do not give or buy your child something every time that you go to the store. Like Pavlov's dog, the act of you going to any store will make the child think they will receive something.

  3. Step 3

You can spoil your child with love and kindness rather than with toys. You would be amazed at how much better the intangible gift is received.

  4. Step 4

Save gifts for special occasions, and limit the number that you give. It is possible that your child can become overwhelmed with too many gifts, and this actually takes the fun out of the whole celebration.

  5. Step 5

Have your child do chores around the house to earn money or activities. This teaches the child responsibility. Also, when the child sees how how hard he or she has to work to get the reward, the chances of blowing the money on junk is less likely to happen.

  6. Step 6

Set an example for your child and appreciate things around you, as well. Take notice of things that people do for you and the items that you have and receive. Comment about how lucky you are to have the lifestyle that you have. Your children will pick up on this.
