How to Make a Door Draft Guard
Door draft guards are an easy way to keep heat in and cold out in the winter time. In the summer, they will keep the summer heat from seeping into your cool house. Although there are many styles and shapes that are available at hardware stores and department stores, they can be easily and effectively made from regular items found around the house. This is a good do it yourself job that can be done singly or as a family project that will save energy and be fun to do.

1
Find towels that are as long as the door is wide. If you don't want to use your own towels, thrift stores offer a wide variety in virtually any color that will fit your decor.
-
2
Roll the towel up into a a giant snake.
-
3
Glue the end rolled edge onto the main body of the towel with a rubberized adhesive. These are commonly found in the shoe section of department stores or the adhesive area of a hardware store. In many cases, they are labeled as "goo." Allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly.

4
Place the draft guard at the base of any door where air is seeping through and push it tightly against the door frame. The rubberized adhesive will allow the towel to remain flexible so that it will conform to the bottom of the door.

Tips & Warnings
Make one of these for every room that has a closed door. Pay particular attention to the doors to the outside, but also use them in between rooms that are kept warm and rooms that aren't heated. Because the adhesive is water proof, these draft guards can be thrown in the wash. However, they should always be air dried so that the heat of the dryer doesn't melt the adhesive.
