How to Consistently Look Your Best for Work

Watch people walking down the street on any given day, and you’ll notice more than half of them looking sloppy, schlumpy and saggy. Most of us don’t have the time or energy to take care of our appearance, and ensure we’re looking our best. But looking your best needs to be a priority, especially at work. To make sure you always look your best and are ready to impress, read on.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Time
  • Pride in your appearance
  • Updated fashion ideas

Step1
Take an honest look at yourself. Spend some time critiquing yourself in front of the mirror, and ask yourself what others may think when they see you. It’s alright to be critical of yourself. At least it’s not coming from someone else.
Step2
Practice good hygiene. Every day. Don’t feel like washing your hair, your face or taking a shower? Don’t have time for it? Do it anyway. Good hygiene on a daily basis will make taking care of your overall appearance much more quick and easy, and it will help you keep your friends at the same time.
Step3
Take time to get ready for work. Sure, it's nice to sleep in, but if that means rolling out of bed, throwing on a stained t-shirt and tattered jeans, and not bothering to run a comb through your hair, it's definitely not going to win you any points at work. The very least you can do is show up to work looking neat. Carve out some time for yourself in the morning for the "prep work" before going in.
Step4
Update your look. If you haven’t gotten your hair styled in 10 years, you're overdue for an update. And if you have the same wardrobe you did in high school, there’s a problem. You're not impressing your employer, coworkers or clients with the retro look.
Step5
Shop for stylish fashions that fit and flatter. You can easily avoid going into work looking like a beggar or a hooch by taking the time to find the right style that works for you. And no, that doesn't mean you can achieve the same effect by digging through the clothes bins at garage sales.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be afraid to take your appearance up a notch no matter your workplace dress code. Sure, sweatshirts and jeans may be perfectly fine apparel Monday through Friday, but it will have your employer, coworkers and clients taking notice if you opt for a sweater and khakis. It definitely will say something about your professionalism.
  • Don’t get lazy. It’s easy to keep up this routine for a week or so and then drop it because it’s too time consuming. If you stick with it, it will pay off in more confidence in the long run.
