Avoid Dying Your Eyelashes

Have you considered dying your eyelashes? Recently there's been an increase in the number of women, particularly teenagers who dye their eyelashes. Not only are eyelash dyes being used to change the color of eyelashes, but hair dyes are being applied to eyelashes despite strict warnings on the containers that doing so could cause blindness. Even dyes made specifically for eyelashes can cause severe allergic reactions, infections, and even blindness. Dying your eyelashes is not to be taken lightly and probably should be avoided even if performed by a licensed professional. Here are some alternatives.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Wear a long lasting mascara

There's a whole new breed of mascaras out there that are designed to last up to several days. These mascaras can give your eyelashes the darker color you're looking for without the need for frequent reapplications. Plus, they come in a range of shades and are quite inexpensive. Take a trip to your local drugstore or cosmetic counter and see what and choose a shade that will match your new hair color.

  2. Step 2

    Use an eyelash curler

You can greatly enhance the look of your eyelashes and eyes by using an eyelash curler combined with a dark mascara. This can really open up and accentuate your eyes. First use the eyelash curler to give a slight bend to your lashes then apply several coats of mascara in a shade that's one or two shades deeper than your hair color. This will accentuate your eyes better than dye without the risks.

  3. Step 3

Use a dark eyeliner on your upper and lower lids

By applying a dark eyeliner carefully to your upper and lower lids followed by mascara, you'll add instant drama and depth to your eyes. If your hair is dark, choose an eyeliner in a dark brown or charcoal grey shade. Generally, black will be too harsh unless your hair is jet black. The simple act of lining your lids followed by application of mascara will give the illusion of dark, thick lashes.

  4. Step 4

Use false lashes for special occasions

If your eyelashes are very sparse and light in color, you can consider using false eyelashes for special functions such as a party to add drama to your eyes. These can be tricky to apply and even more difficult to get a natural look, but they can really add impact to otherwise weak eyelashes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you still want to proceed with dying your eyelashes despite the warnings, be sure to find an experienced, licensed aesthetician to perform the procedure and ask that she use a vegetable based dye. Your good vision may depend on it.
