Heavy makeup can cause eyelash loss.

Normal eyelash shedding, or madarosis, occurs even in the healthiest of people. Shedding can range from light to heavy and may lead to embarrassment in some social situations. In a few cases, losing lashes may be caused by an underlying illnesses such as hypothyroidism or alopecia. Stopping your eyelash loss may take some time as the causes may not be obvious.   • Cotton balls
  • Eye makeup remover
  • Hypoallergenic eye makeup
  • Prescription medicine

Instructions

      Remove eye makeup gently with a cotton ball and eye makeup remover. Close the eye and dab makeup off your lashes from top to bottom. Do not press down or rub the makeup off your eyelashes.

      Stop using eyelash tools such as curlers or eyelash brushes. Replace heavy makeup such as kohl eyeliner and heavy-duty mascara with hypoallergenic makeup.

      Avoid exposing your lashes to sunlight. This may weaken them.

      Visit your physician and ask about a medication such as Latisse. This medication helps lashes grow longer and thicker. Also have the doctor check for eyelash mites, which can cause lash loss. Medication can be prescribed to remove these parasites.

      Avoid pulling out or tugging on your eyelashes. This behavior may be subconscious, so you'll need to pay attention.
