Now you can tune that guitar that you just bought.
You could use an electric tuner, but you should know how to tune your guitar by ear.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Six-sting guitar (electric or acoustic)
  • Tuning key in the key of E

    How to Tune a Guitar

  1. Step 1
    fifth fret E string
    fifth fret E string

    The first string--the thick one--is the low E note.
    Place your finger on the fifth fret and that will be the next string note. The second string is an A.

  2. Step 2

    On the second string, place your finger on the fifth fret, that is the third string note. It is a D. Repeat this until you reach the fourth string. Press the fourth fret on the fourth string.

  3. Step 3

    On the fifth string, press the fifth fret. This will produce an E note again.

  4. Step 4

    Your guitar should be in tune. Strum it to see if it sounds tuned.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can tune your guitar to alternate tunings like an open G or C.
  • Heat and cold can make your instrument go out of tune.
