How to Make Word 2007 Save to Word 2003 Format

Are you one of the fortunate few that has word 2007 installed? Then you have more than likely been told by others that don't yet have it, that they cannot open it.

There was a compatibility update available, but many were not aware. Nor did they bother downloading and updating their Word 2003 just for viewing word 2007 documents.

If you set your Word 2007 to save all new documents to word 2003 format, the complaints will go away.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Word 2007
  1. Step 1

    Open Word 2007 and create a new document

  2. Step 2
    Select the Office Button
    Select the Office Button

    Select the "Office" Button, this will give you many options

  3. Step 3
    Select the Word options button
    Select the Word options button

    Select the "Word Options" Button

  4. Step 4

    From the Word Options Page, Select the "Save" section, and select the "save as" drop down list.

  5. Step 5
    Select Save As option
    Select Save As option

    Select the "Save As Word 97-2003 format" and press OK.

  6. Step 6

    Select "OK" to save all changes

Tips & Warnings
  • By Setting this you will save all the documents in the proper format if sending to others that do not yet have Word 2007 or the computability pack installed on their version.
  • You will disable some of the new functions available to only the Office 2007 suite.
