How to Make Word 2007 Save to Word 2003 Format
Word 2007 includes significant enhancements over Word 2003. One of the most notable is the file type the program saves documents as. Word 2007 saves documents with the .docx extension, while Word 2003 saves with the .doc extension. Fortunately, the newer version of the program includes a way to save documents in the .doc extension for easy accessibility in Word 2003.

Click the "Office" button in Word 2007 and click "Save As."

Click the down arrow in the Save As Type box to open a list of format options.

Click the "Word 97-2003 Document" option.

Type a name for the file and click "Save."

Tips & Warnings
By Setting this you will save all the documents in the proper format if sending to others that do not yet have Word 2007 or the computability pack installed on their version.
You will disable some of the new functions available to only the Office 2007 suite.
