Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Steady hand
  • Teacher
  • Bike
  • Helmet
  • Knee pads
  • Elbow pads
  1. Step 1

Mount the bike up on its kickstand.

  2. Step 2

If on steps, prop the right or left leg over the seat while securely holding one of the handle bars or the person that will assist you in riding.

  3. Step 3

Put your foot on the pedal. Hold the handle bar with your right or left hand.

  4. Step 4

Using your right or left foot, prop up the kickstand so that the bike will be able to move.

  5. Step 5

Position the bike upward and straight. Once the kickstand is up the bike will tilt.

  6. Step 6

Press your foot down on the pedal to push off.

  7. Step 7

Place your other foot quickly on the other pedal and rotate in a forward swim motion. Your right or left foot will go up, out and under.

  8. Step 8

Steer straight ahead using your left or right hand placed on the handle bar.

  9. Step 9

To make it easier, you can place your left or right hand underneath the handle bar. Your fingers will wrap around upward. This will add more control and support.

  10. Step 10

To turn, angle the handle bar to slant the wheel. Your right or left hand will be at your side the entire time.

  11. Step 11

To stop, the break should be on either side underneath the handle bar. This may become tricky if the break is on the opposite side of the hand you are using to guide the bike.

  12. Step 12

Quickly reach over to the break and press upward to slow or completely stop the bike from moving.

  13. Step 13

Continue to control the stop with either your right of left foot.
