Things You'll Need:
- Patti's CD's
- Strong voice
-
Step 1
Warm up your vocal chords by exhaling and inhaling in sets of fours. Concentrate on the diaphragm as you do.
-
Step 2
Lower your bottom lip so that your mouth is in an "O" position. Drop your chin down to your neck. Now close your mouth. Do this exercise at least 10 times to loosen up the jaw bone.
-
Step 3
From the diaphragm, inhale from the pit of your stomach and exhale. This will send out the first note like Patti does.
-
Step 4
If your voice is not as strong as hers, listen to the tones and pitches she does working with those first.
-
Step 5
Lay on your back with your neck positioned like you were holding an apple underneath your chin. Also, bend your knees. This helps not only with feeling the breath you inhale and exhale but also with making the right tones to sound like Patti.
-
Step 6
Breathe in this position. With your thumb and index finger, pinch your nose at the tip to get the full effect of the sound. This technique may sound funny in the beginning; but it will guide your breathing at a certain pace. It's important not to force it.
-
Step 7
Place your arms across your chest. Grasp your shoulders with your hands.
-
Step 8
Raise your elbows slightly so that the breath can contract as you sing a note using your lips in an "O" position once again.
-
Step 9
Bring your arms to your knees. Rock up to a sitting position and stand up.
-
Step 10
Drop your chin to your chest. Lower your bottom lip. Sing the scales from your diaphragm.
