Are you tired of going to sleep cozily tucked in and waking up rudely exposed to the night air? You can spend the night in a sleep-stealing tug of war with your sheet-stealing partner or you can face the problem head on and change your bed-making technique. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 queen- or king-size fitted sheet
  • 2 double or queen flat sheets
  • Over-sized comforter
  • Twin-sized blanket
  1. Step 1

Dress your mattress in the appropriate size fitted sheet, as usual.

  2. Step 2

Position a flat sheet over the fitted sheet but shifted to the right side of the bed. For a double-size flat sheet on a queen-size bed, the right edge of the sheet should hang well over the side of the bed while the left edge barely reaches across the mattress.

  3. Step 3

Fold the flat sheet over at the top, as usual. Take the left edge of the sheet (the one that doesn't hang over) and fold it toward the center of the bed.

  4. Step 4

Place the second flat sheet over the first one but shifted so it hangs low off the left side of the bed. Fold down the top and fold the right edge toward the center. You should have single layers of sheets on the outer thirds of the bed, with the folded sheet sections stacked in between.

  5. Step 5

Cover the sheets with an over-sized comforter. Place a spare, twin-size blanket where you can easily reach it from the bed, like on the floor.

  6. Step 6

Try out the new bedding arrangement. Your partner now has his own sheet to wrap up in, while you hold on to yours. You may be able to share the over-sized comforter but if he gets greedy with it, grab your spare blanket, wrap yourself in it and enjoy a good night's sleep.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's easier to make up the bed if the top sheets are smaller than the normal size for the bed. There's less fabric to struggle with. If you buy your sheets in sets, you can use the flat sheet from the set plus an additional sheet in the next smaller size.
  • You may want to tuck your own sheet in at the foot and sides for greater security. But most sheet-stealers kick their sheets loose before rolling in them; so don't bother to tuck her side.
  • If your spare blanket is too big, you run the risk that your partner will unconsciously latch on to a corner and make it part of her nest.

on 10/18/2008 What about, "She's got her sheets, I got mine!" ;-) Except she gets the warm ones, I get the one with a hole in it! This is a point of serious contention in my household...Great article.
