If you often have itchy skin, you may be allergic to some chemicals in your environment and daily life. Read on for some ways to eliminate some of the causes of skin allergies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Toss out all your scented laundry products. Fragrances in detergents, softeners and dryer sheets saturate your clothes, bedding and towels with an allergen. Buy fragrance-free laundry detergent and fabric softener.
Step2
Wash all your bedding and towels in mild, fragrance-free laundry products and double rinse them. Wash all your clothes using the same products and double-rinse cycle. It may take a few washing cycles before all the perfumes are eliminated from your fabrics.
Step3
Buy natural fragrance-free or low-fragrance bath products including soap, shampoo and conditioner. Avoid shampoos with the ingredient ‘Quaternium 15’ or similar compounds which are allergenic to many people. Try an unscented antiperspirant.
Step4
Avoid using colognes, perfumes and scented beauty products whenever possible. Once your skin allergies have calmed down, you can experiment with cologne and perfume to see if you still have any reaction.
Step5
Wear non-itchy fabrics like soft cotton knits. Try eliminating wool, nylon and synthetic fabrics from your wardrobe for a few weeks and see if your itchiness level is reduced.
Step6
Use a humidifier in your house during the winter. Low humidity can cause dry skin and itchiness. Also, use a non-allergenic skin moisturizer to reduce dry skin symptoms.
Step7
Try eliminating gold jewelry and other metal jewelry from your wardrobe for a few weeks to see if it reduces your itchiness. Surprisingly, the jewelry metals nickel and gold are a leading cause of skin allergies.
