Making a creamy caramel sauce can be a tedious, messy job, and it is easy to burn yourself. That's why most home cooks avoid making the golden sweet elixir. Here is an easy recipe that will render you a perfect cream caramel every time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large soup pot and lid
  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk
  • Water
  • Can opener
Step1
Place the two cans of evaporated milk into the pot and cover completely with water. Put on the lid and slow boil.
Step2
If you boil for 2 hours, the caramel will be thin enough to pour over a desert. Cooking it for the full 3 hours makes a candy caramel, reminiscent of the chewy caramels you ate as a child.
Step3
Who doesn't like a delicious caramel apple? Who doesn't like a delicious caramel apple? Cool, open and serve. Remove from the can and place it into a plastic container. This will keep in the refrigerator for a week.

Tips & Warnings

  • Evaporation happens, so check the water level frequently to be sure that the cans are covered during the entire process.
  • Flip them 180 degrees occasionally.
  • For a treat, grill or brown some pineapple circles and top with creamy caramel.
  • Wait till the cans cool before opening.

on 9/21/2008 The cans can be stored after cooking for about 6 months unopened. If you whip it with a mixer it makes a nice caramel dip for apple slices.
