"Lions, Tigers, and Bears. Oh My!" A safari-themed birthday is a great idea for a themed birthday party. If you cannot get to a zoo, why not make up your own? Here are some great tips to plan a safari inspired birthday.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Safari-themed paper plates, cups and napkins (zebra, army green or brown work well)
  • Balloons
  • Picture of a zebra (for "Pin the Tail on the Zebra")
  • Zebra tails (cut them out of construction paper)
  • Tape
  • Blindfold
  • Pinata of lion or tiger
  • Safari-inspired cake (with lions, zebras, lizards or any animals found in the Sahara)
  • "Lion King" Movie
  1. Step 1

Decorate. Use colors found on a safari hunt such as greens, browns, oranges and yellows. Use balloons to brighten up the room as well as the paper plates, cups, and napkins.

  2. Step 2

Make a station for "Pin the Tail on the Zebra." Set out the "tails" and tape on a table ready for play.

  3. Step 3

Hang the lion or tiger pinata. You can find these on http://www.kidspinatas.com. Hang at a reasonable height for the age group that will be attending.

  4. Step 4

Put the cake on the middle of the table. Make sure it has a safari theme as well.

  5. Step 5

Set up a TV.. with Disney's "The Lion King." If any of the kids get tired or restless, they can always watch the movie.

Tips & Warnings
  • These are just a few suggestions. There are many ways to add to this party. Ever thought about a scavenger hunt or better yet, a safari excursion around the yard?
  • Make an arts and crafts time during the party. Have all the kids make a animal mask and wear it for the rest of the party, like the lion mask on Kaboose. (See Resources.)
  • Have the kids come dressed in their favorite safari and exploring clothes.
  • Be careful when the kids swing at the pinata. Keep all children at a safe distance.
