How to Create a Money-Making Niche Product

You can use simple strategies to create a niche product in the marketplace. Come up with a smart idea that no one else has thought of before and take that idea to market and profit from its use. Once you have come up with a niche business, you can confirm if there is a large market to support it. Finding a niche market usually means big profits!

  1. Step 1

    Try modernizing a conventional method. Create a more trendy style accessory like Karen Bell did when she walked into a department store, brought a dozen pair of women’s white socks, then took the socks home, decorating them with rhinestones and buttons, and successfully created a hosiery company called K. Bell. You, too, can use old age ideas and with a little creativity and ingenuity develop something new and exciting.

  2. Step 2

    Solve a problem and reap big profits! You can find a way to help others or fill a need that someone else has not met before. By serving others, you can never go wrong.

  3. Step 3

    Change the demographics of the area to refocus it to a different market. Is there a product that is sold only to men, that may be a benefit to women also? Are there any areas that do not have a particular product or service available? Research this fact and find your niche.

  4. Step 4

    How about re-inventing an old style or growing something else out of an old product. Bread to bagels is one example of reinventing a new product from an old one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think about different market segments like beauty shops, grocery stores, bookstores and what you would add to change them.
  • What products could you invent to solve a problem in the world?
  • Is there an area in your location that lacks a specific need or business?
  • Explore the different demographics of people. Has any children or women been under-served in any area that you can see?
  • You must do your homework when it comes to niche businesses. There may be a lot of risk involved with starting a niche business. More than likely your niche will change or grow into other markets or products. Zeroing in on the market prospects and its expectations can cause you not to lose profits in the end. So investigate each opportunity to see if there is a large enough market to support it.

on 2/8/2008 I loved your ideas. Do you watch the Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch? It comes on Mon-Fri at 10pm on CNBC. It's really good. They always have people who used tips mentioned in this article.
