How to Make and Store Cheese Sauce

A popular topping for many vegetables is a savory cheese sauce. Here is an easy recipe and simple steps to store the sauce and have it on hand everyday.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice cube trays
  • 2 cups of a variety of cheeses
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • Medium sauce pan
  • Stove
  • Whisk
  • Plastic wrap
  1. Step 1

    Melt the butter in the sauce pan over a medium heat. Turn the heat to low.

  2. Step 2

    Stir in the flour with the whisk. Slowly stir in the salt and the pepper.

  3. Step 3

    Stir in the milk and the cheese and heat the mixture until it is smooth.

  4. Step 4

    Remove from the heat and fill the ice cube trays with the sauce.

  5. Step 5

    Store the trays in the freezer for a delicious sauce anytime.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to burn the sauce. Be sure to switch to a low heat after the butter is melted.
