Nowadays with our busy schedules, sometimes sleep is no longer a priority as we try to stretch our days to as many hous as possible. Many of us forget that our bodies need this period of rest, and the lack of it can cause many problems, even obesity. These tips will help you sleep better, and achieve a helathier lifestyle as a result.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A nice, comfortable bed.

Step1
So you've already lost sleep? In days that you have under slept, do not nap. When you feel sleepy, do something physical for at least a half hour like walk, clean the house, play with your dog, cook. Do not sit in front of the TV, as it will probably increase your feelings of being tired.
Step2
If what's keeping you awake are your thoughts, keep a journal next to your bed and write them down. This way, you can let go of them, knowing you will remember your thoughts in the morning.
Step3
Schedule your last meal of the day at least four hours before going to bed. This way, you have time to digest your food before your sleep.
Step4
Do not drink before sleeping. Alcohol may help you get to sleep, but it will not produce high quality sleep. You will probably wake up earlier than usual, and you will feel more tired than usual. This is because alcohol makes your sleeping period irregular.
Step5
Exercising is a great way to guarantee a good night's sleep. Exercising in the evening provides the best results. Doing some gentle exercise right before bedtime may help you sleep better.
Step6
Develop a sleeping schedule. Try to sleep and wake up at around the same time every day, including weekends.
Step7
Do not do anything stimulating the hour before you go to sleep. Stop studying, read light materials or watch a light TV show. Exercise should be gentle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure your environment is conducive to rest and sleep. Make sure it is dark enough, that it is neat enough and that you feel rested in it.
  • Remember that each person needs different amounts of sleep. Some people are fine with 6 hours while others need 8 or 9 hours. Find your own sleeping schedule because oversleeping may be a problem too.
  • Do not take sleeping pills. If you feel you must, ALWAYS consult a physician first.
