One way to customize your computer is to change the way your folders look. You can even change the appearance of just a single folder. These steps will show you how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer using Microsoft Windows
  1. Step 1

    Click “Start” and then click “My Documents.”

  2. Step 2

    Right click any folder you want to customize. Click “Properties.” The “Properties” dialog will appear.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the “Customize” tab.

  4. Step 4

    Under “What Kind of Folder Do You Want?” choose a folder template.

  5. Step 5

    Under “Folder Pictures” you can choose a picture that identifies the folder, or click “Restore Default” to return the folder to its default setting.

  6. Step 6

    Under “Folder Icons” you can change the graphic that identifies this folder. This will not work if you are using “Thumbnail” view.

  7. Step 7

    When you have made all of your desired changes, click “Apply” and “OK.”

Tips & Warnings
  • You won’t be able to change the appearance of “My Documents,” “My Pictures” or “My Music” folders, but if they contain other folders you can customize those.
