Summer weddings can be hot affairs. Whether you have an outdoor wedding or an indoor wedding, the summer heat can make guests feel uncomfortable. Formal attire only adds to their discomfort. Follow these easy instructions to make your own summer fan wedding favors that will help cool your guests.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cardstock paper (one 8 1/2 x 10-inch sheet for each favor)
  • Computer and printer, or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tongue depressors (one for each favor)
  • Ribbon (1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, white or in a color that compliments your wedding décor)

Step1
Cut each piece of cardstock paper through the center to make two 4 1/4 x 5-inch pieces.
Step2
Round the corners of the cardstock using scissors.
Step3
Print half of the cut pieces of cardstock with the bride and groom’s monogram, the bride and groom’s names, the wedding date or any other appropriate personalized message. Alternatively, you can write a message with markers.
Step4
Glue a tongue depressor in the center of a short edge of a piece of blank cardstock with the tongue depressor about an inch on the paper and the rest sticking straight out from the paper. This makes the fan handle.
Step5
Glue a printed piece of cardstock on top of the blank cardstock, sandwiching the glued tongue depressor. Glue around the edges and make sure the printed or written side is facing out.
Step6
Trim the very edges of the glued paper to even out the edges for a neat appearance.
Step7
Repeat Steps 4 to 6 for each favor.
Step8
Cut a piece of ribbon for each favor. You can adjust the length based of your desired look, but 15 to 17 inches should be about right. For a larger bow, cut a longer piece.
Step9
Tie a piece of ribbon in a bow around each fan, just under the printed or written message. Be careful to fold the ribbon at the edges of the fan. Do not pull the ribbon too tight or the paper will bend and wrinkle.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can personalize this summer wedding favor in several ways, including using personalized printed ribbon or matching the color of the cardstock paper with your wedding colors.
