You start with a blank slate as a new ebook writer. Without a good advertising strategy the book won't sell.

If you are considering writing an eBook, and want to profit from it, advertising is crucial. Here are a few ideas on how to advertise your eBook.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be careful with an ePublisher. Some self publisher sites are better than others. Many people find Lulu and Booklocker to be two good options. Neither site will work to promote your book, but both allow you a good cut of the book sales. They can offer you strategies on promoting your eBook too. On Booklocker, for example, there are links to articles on online advertising.

  2. Step 2

Watch out for scams. For every quality site on the Internet, there are two that want your money and nothing else. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Some sites can help you advertise your books. Look for testimonials and ask for references from other writers. Other sites are a complete waste of time and money.

  3. Step 3

Book review sites. This is a much safer route than trying to pay someone to promote your book, but many book review sites don’t accept eBooks for review. However, some specialize in reviewing eBooks. The great thing about your eBook is it’s free to just submit it. You don’t have to spend a few dollars or more sending out a print copy, wondering whether or not it will be reviewed.

  4. Step 4

Forums and groups. If you are an active writer online, this step should be easy. Even if you have no experience with online writing groups or forums, it won’t be hard to implement this. First, ask the forum or group heads if you can submit a short piece on your eBook. If you’re an active member, no one will mind. This isn’t a major strategy in selling books, but it helps get the word out. Second, always leave links to your book in your signature. Every sale counts. Finally, ask other members advice on advertising, where they read and go for things like book reviews.

  5. Step 5

Blogs. There are thousands of blogs with more starting every day so this is a huge market for finding a readership. You can start your own blog to advertise your eBook, or you can query other bloggers. If you do the latter, make sure the blog has a similar theme to the book. For example, if you have an eBook on writing, compile a long list of bloggers to query. Just ask the blogger if they would be interested in a free copy of your book or would like a press release. You might be surprised as many writers are on the lookout for free and easy content to publish.

  6. Step 6

Write the next book. Don't be surprised on how slowly your book sold. This is the curse of the first book sales. Writing the next book will make you more accessible to readers and act as a promotion for your second book. The bigger the library you get, the more you can earn.
