A good wine can make a good chocolate a great chocolate!

Choosing a wine to complement chocolate for a romantic night can make the desert go from ho-hum to amazing. Here are a few tips from wine expert Natalie MacLean on how to make the perfect combination.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, MacLean says to look for wines with a high alcohol content.

  2. Step 2

Pick sweet, fortified wines for their richness to match chocolate's flavor.

  3. Step 3

Here are some of MacLean's suggestions for great wine and chocolate match-ups:
    1. Australia's Liqueur Muscat and chocolate-orange cake
    2. The Italian wine Recioto Della Valpolicella and chocolate-covered Biscotti
    3. Dark chocolate and the French wine Banyuls
    4. Chocolate with nuts and Tawny Port from Portugal
    5. Hungarian Tokaji and milk chocolate
    6. Italian Amarone and bittersweet chocolate
    7. Chocolate-covered fruit and Canadian Icewine
    8. French Sauternes and chocolate Ganache Truffles
    9. Cream Sherry and Chocolate hearts with cream filling
    10. White chocolate and Tokaji

  4. Step 4

MacLean's favorite match? Tawny port and dark chocolate.
