How to Give Someone a Nickname

Nicknames are like secret language that you and your friends or family enjoy. No nickname is without an interesting story attached. If you want to give your friends nicknames and make them stick, here are a few things you can do.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Know that nicknames have to come from an inside joke between you and your friend. Wait for the next time your friend makes you laugh hysterically and try to choose a word that best epitomizes that experience.
Step2
Be aware that a lot of nicknames come from actual names or last names. When you are talking to your friend, try to notice what you most often call them. Then shorten or lengthen it, depending on what feels more comfortable.
Step3
Think of a word that best describes your friend or something the are really into. Some times calling someone "Big Tim" or "Comedy Jane" is a fun nickname.
Step4
Use the nickname as much as you can once you have found a nickname you like (and your friend isn't offended by), completely disregarding their original name. Others will begin to catch on.
Step5
Begin to introduce your friend as their nickname. People will be initiated with the nickname and never use the real name, nor even know what it is.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't choose an insulting nickname.
