The National Little Britches Rodeo Association is the standard bearer of junior rodeo in the United States. Each year some 2,000 kids from 24 states compete in more than 275 Little Britches rodeos. These events take place in 14 states across the nation.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • A small or large group of dependable friends.
  • An existing non profit organization such as the elks club or Kiwanis or you can start your own.
  • A place to hold the rodeo that has all of the pens and chutes.
  • All of the required equipment such as poles barrels etc.
  • A National Little Britches Rodeo Association Franchise.
  • MONEY!!
  • TIME!!

Step1
Talk to some of your friends and see if they would be interested in helping you set up and run a Little Britches Rodeo. If you can try to get an existing non profit organization with a 501 (C) 3 such as the Elks Club or the Kiwanis to be involved this will help cut down the amount of paper work and expense to get started. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A CHILD IN RODEO OR HAVE A RODEO BACKGROUND TO START A NATIONAL LITTLE BRITCHES RODEO!!
Step2
Call the National Little Britches Rodeo Association office (719) 389-0333 and talk to one of the ladies in the office about starting a new franchise. They will be able to help answer your questions and give you advice on the best way to set up your new franchise. Be sure to ask about a rodeo producer. A producer will be able to book all of the necessary personnel to run your rodeo and will also be able to help the rodeo run smoothly. (A producer will cost a little bit of money but in the long run he/she will save you several headaches and heart attacks)
Step3
Fill out all of the necessary paper work and then open a bank account for your new Little Britches Rodeo. Select a date or dates for your rodeo and start going out to local business and getting sponsorships. Hold several committee meetings to plan out your rodeo. DO NOT LEAVE THING UNTILL THE LAST SECOND!!!
Step4
Start advertising your Little Britches Rodeo about a month before your first performance. Place advertisements in the paper, on the internet, and on TV if you can. Try to create a large amount of excitement about your event.
Step5
Enjoy the rodeo!!

Tips & Warnings

  • I highly recommend calling the NLBRA office and talking to the office staff about starting a franchise and whom they recommend for a producer.
  • A produce will cut the amount of work you have to do in half. The produce will be able to arrange all of the officials such as stock contractors, judges, pick-up men etc leaving you and your committee time to go out and get sponsorships an promote your rodeo.
  • Do not attempt to start a Little Britches Rodeo if you have a court order banning you from being around kids.
  • This is not something you can just throw together over nigh it takes months of planning.
  • You can not use the name Little Britches Rodeo with out buying a franchise from the National Little Britches Rodeo Office!
