Does it make your nervous when it is time for your child's parent teacher conference? Here are a few tips to help make it go smoothly for child, parent, and teacher.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Gather your child's recent samples of work. Make sure you have samples from each subject.
Step2
Look over each sample. Write down any questions about the work. Be specific, it is okay to ask what the teacher was expecting with each assignment.
Step3
Talk to your child. Ask him or her if they have any concerns or problems. Ask them to be specific, and write them down along with the other questions.
Step4
Write down to ask the teacher if the child is on grade level with his or her work. If they are behind ask what you need to do at home to help him or her catch up. If you child is ahead, ask what you can do to enhance their learning.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that the teacher is there to help your child. Work together with teacher to the best you can to help your child.
  • Remember, if your child is above grade level do not assume everything is ok. There may be other issues going on. So always attend the conference.
  • Always be positive with your child after the conference.
