How to Spot a Ghost at the Lizzie Borden House

Before the O.J. Simpson and Scott Peterson trials, the Lizzie Borden trial was the epitome of scandal and crime. Did Lizzie really kill her parents with an axe? Historians are unsure, but perhaps a conversation with Lizzie herself is still possible? The site of these killings is now a bed and breakfast, and sensitive visitors may get more than just a pleasant visit out of the experience.

Things You’ll Need:

• Camera
• Tape recorder for EVP work
• A reservation at the bed and breakfast or a ticket for the tour

1. Abbey Borden was the stepmother to Lizzie and a well-known spiritualistic visitor at the Lizzie Borden house. Cold spots are your clue that Abbey is around, and some guests have reported seeing her apparition making beds and wandering through the home. Scary!
2. Outside the home strange orbs and whirling mist has appeared on photographs. The International Ghost Hunters Society has one on their website. Check it out (see link in Resources section below) and then try to catch one of your own while visiting!
3. TAPS visited the Lizzie Borden house to mixed reviews. They may have felt a spirit on the sofa where Andrew Borden was killed. The place was creepy and definitely held the echoes of past violence, but other evidence was inconclusive.
4. Electrical anomalies are a common occurrence at the Lizzie Borden Bed and breakfast. Lights flicker, batteries drain so be sure to bring some back up!
