Take any color candle and turn it into a beautiful piece of home decor to be enjoyedby all. This is a great a very economical craft to do and also a great gift giving idea!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 tall smooth surface candle( any color)
  • Acrylic paints (any color)
  • Package of brushes (different sizes)
  • Kitchen Sponge
  • Old Toothbrush
  • Clear Finishing Spray
  • Black Pen (permanent)
  • Tracing paper
  1. Step 1

Once you have decided on the size of the candle you want to paint, take a piece of transfer paper (dark transfer paper works best on lighter shade candles and lighter transfer paper works best on darker candles) and place it underneath the design and onto the candle. Hold it down with your hand and trace your design with a pencil.

  2. Step 2

Lift up the paper and decide on the colors you wish to use for painting your candle. A liner brush works great for smaller detailed areas on your candle and a wider flat brush works well on larger areas to paint. Play around with the colors and try different things. If you want to give your candle some dimension, take your sponge and cut off a small piece. Wet it and dab it into some paint. Sponge it around the base and top of the candle for a different look. Try taking a permanent pen marker and adding some fancy scrolling lines or write your favorite saying on the candle.

  3. Step 3

Another technique that is fun to do is to take an old toothbrush and wet it. Dip it into the paint and with your thumb pull back across the bristles to get a splattered look on your candle. Once the candle is dry, spray the acrylic sealer on it. A pretty look for a candle arrangement is to use 3 candles of different sizes to use together to create a more visual and enjoyable look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Copy pictures out of magazines for scenes that you want to transfer onto your candle or find a picture on the Internet and use it to trace onto your candle as well.
  • When using any spray or chemical on your craft, it is not recommended that you light your candle but to only enjoy it as a piece of art!
