How to Start the Day with Hope

Many of us trudge through the day like stalwart soldiers, marching up the next hill out of begrudging obligation or duty.

Agreed, we may not be looking forward to some of the things the day has in store for us (a crummy job, screaming kids, bill collectors, tending to ailing loved ones).

However, if we can put ourselves in a mindset first thing in the morning we can off-set that feeling of dread significantly.

Things You'll Need:

  • Focus
  1. Step 1

    BE THE MOMENT
    You have a few moments to embrace the space between the sleeping and waking mind. I call these soul moments. When you become aware of these tender waking moments, it will alter the course of your entire day (I daresay it will alter your entire life if you make this moment capturing a regular practice).

  2. Step 2

    BE PRESENT
    Before doing anything, slip into this soul moment. Allow your soul access to this moment BEFORE the mind starts to chatter about all the stuff you’ve got to get done for the day.

  3. Step 3

    BE FOCUSED
    Keep your eyes closed. Focus completely and only on the soul moment.

  4. Step 4

    BE THE BREATH
    While remaining in the moment, breathe into it. Be so conscious of your breath in this moment that you become the breath.

  5. Step 5

    BE THE LIGHT
    When you are practicing the preceding steps, you will notice the aliveness in your body. This aliveness may manifest itself as a vibration or light pulsing throughout the body. Pull this light up into your closed eyelids. Be aware of nothing but this life energy, and the light shining behind your closed eyelids. Let it consume you. Be the light energy.

  6. Step 6

    REMAIN, BE & CARRY ON
    Remain in this feeling for as many more moments as you can. Recall this experience as you go about the rest of your morning, day and evening. Carry on about your business while keeping that feeling of present aliveness within you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Draw upon the experience of your waking soul moments throughout the day. You will begin to see tremendous transformations on how you face the day, and how your day responds to you.
  • Don't clobber yourself if your mind starts bullying its way into your tranquility before you can capture those beautiful moments prior to full awakening. Just keep focusing on the steps. With practice, an all-pervasive hope will come and your days will be infused with this hope as well.
