Do you want to run away whenever you see a camera? Do you always end up looking better in person than in pictures? If so, then follow these easy tips to help you better your image to the camera.
Relax!!! Nothing looks worst on camera than stress. Try to think of something you like, or a moment that made you happy. Don't worry about how the picture will come out, otherwise you will pose too much and the result will be artificial.
Step2
Expose only 3/4 of your face to the camera. This is a trick used by many models. A full frontal shot tends to be less flattering, so try and avoind that. This means lift your neck and slightly shift your head down.
Step3
Do not be photographed from below! It is really unflattering to anyone. It creates a double chin that will make pictures look very unnatural and not like you. Make sure that the camera is always a little above eye level.
Step4
Wear clothes that suit you. Find a color that looks great on you or a style that minimizes parts of your body you are uncomfortable with. Check with someone you trust if the color you are wearing really looks good on you, or if the style is really flattering you.
Step5
Hide any skin imperfections. Do you have a pimple? Is your skin too shiny? These can all be fixed with makeup. Make sure that you put just enough to cover the imperfections, but that it does not look like a mask.
Step6
Smile naturally. Try to think of something that will really make you smile, rather than saying "cheese". This will ensure a genuine face instead of something extremely posed for.
Tips & Warnings
Make sure to always feel good with your photographer. If you feel someone is not capturing your best angles, then change the photographer!
Do not be afraid to use makup.
Be careful with the amount of makeup you put. Too much makeup will definetly work against you.

Here are a couple more tips from a portrait artist, good for men or women:
Be sure the lighting is strong and off to the side. Flash bulbs directly in front wash out the face and flatten it, making it look pasty and puffy. Don't allow flash if it's right in front of you!
Also, pay attention to the color of the background. Drivers license photos look bad because of the flat blue backgrounds that make skin tones sickly. Go for some strong contrasting backgrounds and try different backdrops till you find what looks good with your skin tone as it is. Backdrop colors actually reflect on the skin and change the skin tone, so that's why "ID Blue" makes people look like they drowned!
