You'll want to make baby's transition to real food gentle on her stomach and as nutritionally sound as possible. Making your own puréed organic food is the best way to go. It's cheaper than buying processed baby foods too!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Organic fruits and vegetables
  • Food processor or blender
  1. Step 1

Using your local general store or a health food market, buy organic fruits and vegetables. Avoid tomatoes, strawberries and citrus as these are too acidic and come with a high allergy warning. Avoid grains at first, as these can be highly allergic too. All else is good for baby's first smashed foods.

  2. Step 2

Peel everything. Even with the finest of food processors, you'll need to peel everything. Make a mix of apple cider and water and spritz it on the fruit or vegetable being peeled for an easier time of it. It makes the peel come off easier without altering the nutritional value for baby. It also helps as a non-stick spray in the blender.

  3. Step 3

Place in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Make more than you'll need for one meal, so freeze extra in ice cube trays and defrost in microwave when ready to serve again. Be very careful using the microwave and remember that foods cook from the inside out. Stir baby's food thoroughly to ensure there are no hot spots to burn her little mouth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bake sweet potatoes or butternut squash with 4 oz hot water facedown for half hour at 350 degrees. Scrap out insides of squash and blend until smooth. This seems to be a favorite among new eaters.
