How to Decorate With Children's Artwork

Step1

Create a rotating "art gallery" for your child's work. It could be a hallway, the family room or her bedroom. Choose eight-to-ten paintings, drawings and mosaics to showcase at one time. They could have a unifying theme, such as color scheme or holiday scene, or you can simply select the most recent works.

Step2

Make simple picture frames by nailing together four pieces of unfinished wood cut to fit the artwork. Have your child paint the frames or decorate them with sequins, buttons and ribbons. Fit a piece of cardboard on the back of each frame and nail or glue it to the frame. Place artwork inside the frames and hang on the "gallery" wall.

Step3

Every month, replace artwork with new or different works. Allow your child to choose the theme for that month.

Step4

Blend your child's creations with other artwork in your home. Frame one of his free-form finger paint masterpieces, and hang it beside a contemporary print. Slip a piece of pottery that he made in school beside antiques on a tabletop.

Step5

Create an "art file" for old pieces. Once artwork has been displayed, store it in a large box along with other items in her "collection."

Tips & Warnings

Make this a fun project for you and your child. Ask him where he would like to place his art pieces. If he wants to bump one of your favorite paintings in favor of his, agree to display it for a "limited time only." A month in the spotlight will make him feel like a famous artist.
