If you know a little girl who has a bunch of hair bows, you may have noticed that they can take up a lot of space. Here is a simple project that you can do to keep those hairbows organized and use them as fun decor at the same time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10x13 Picture Frame
  • Craft Paint
  • Brushes
  • 7/8-inch Ribbon
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Embellishments of your choice
  • 1/8-inch Ribbon
  • Measuring device (measuring tape, yardstick or ruler)
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Carefully remove the glass and the backing from the picture frame. Dispose of them carefuly or you can save them in a safe place to use in other craft projects.

  2. Step 2

Choose the color for your frame. Select a color that matches the decor of the area in which you will diplay the bow holder. Use two coats to adaquatly cover the orginal color of the frame. Buy a frame that is already the color that you want to save this step.

  3. Step 3

Cut your 7/8" ribbon into five strips. Each should measure about 12.5 inches.

  4. Step 4
How the strips should look on the back of the frame.
How the strips should look on the back of the frame.

Using your hot glue gun, adhere the strips onto the back side of the frame. Evenly space them at about 2.5" apart. Glue both ends. Make sure that the ribbon is pulled tightly and secured with enough glue to hold.

  5. Step 5

Embellish the front of the frame. Possible embellishments include
feather boas, faux fur, glitter, craft gems, painted polka dots, small artifical flowers and beads. Be creative and use your immagination and personal style to make the frame yours.

  6. Step 6

Cut a piece of the 1/8" coordinating ribbon to be your hanger. Tie a piece about 18"-long on either side of the top of the frame. You can secure it further with a bead of hot glue behind each knot.

  7. Step 7

Once all the glue has dried, snap your hairbows onto the ribbons and hang the frame on the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a hair dryer on a low setting to get rid of any hot glue strings on the frame. The heat will melt the strings and make it easy to pull them loose.
  • If you do not want to use the 1/8" ribbon as the hanger, use the picture frame hanger on the back of the frame.
  • Use common sense and saftey when you are using the hot glue gun. Keep it out of the reach of children.

on 7/23/2008 I did this idea tonight and I love how it turned out. I didn't do the embellishments around the frame yet. I just haven't found any I like yet. Also I made a bow for the middle of the hanging ribbon and it made super cute! I also added hooks to the bottom so I could hang my daughters head bands on them. She is only 4 months, so she doesn't wear bows yet.
