Instructions

  1. Dry Pillows

    • 1

Place a dry feather pillow in the dryer.

    • 2

Dampen a cloth with a little bit of liquid fabric softener.

    • 3

Add the cloth to the feather pillow in the dryer.

    • 4

Set the dryer to low heat for 10 minutes and start. According to University of Nebraska at Lincoln Extension, this removes the humidity from the pillow and restores resiliency.

    Wet Pillows

    • 5

Put a down pillow that has been freshly washed and thoroughly rinsed in the washing machine, in the dryer.

    • 6

Add three clean tennis balls to the dryer.

    • 7

Set the dryer to low heat. Turn it on to its longest time setting. Start the dryer.

    • 8

Check the pillows after three hours of drying time, resetting the dryer as necessary. Feather pillows can take as long as six hours to dry and fluff completely after washing. The longer you dry the better, as mold can develop inside feather pillows that are not thoroughly dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • An alternative way to fluff up your feather pillows is to place them in the dryer along with 3 clean tennis balls. Use the low heat setting. The balls will bounce off the pillow(s) and add some volume.

  • Dry no more than two pillows at a time in the dryer.
