How to Pretend to Remember a Person

One of the most embarrassing moments of your life if when you are confronted with a person who is very excited to see you...and you have no memory of them at all. Fortunately, there is an easy way to fake your way through this experience with these easy steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
When the person first recognizes you and you realize you have no idea who he is, take a deep breath and play it cool. Don't reveal your confusion.
Step2
Match his level of enthusiasm. If he is simply polite and low key, ape that. If he is jumping up and down with excitement, do your best to appear just as excited.
Step3
At the all important "how long has it been?" question, make a neutral statement about something that has happened to you lately, such as "since before I got my new job, I think." This is better then "Oh....a long time" or "I can't remember."
Step4
If you are with a friend, introduce her to your mysterious friend. When you say "This is Shelly," hopefully he will respond with "Oh hi! I'm Rob!" and then you have a name, which may jog your memory.
Step5
Ask "Rob" a neutral question like, "how is your year/summer/weekend going?" His answer will shed more light on the mystery of his identity.
Step6
Even if you can't figure it out, wish "Rob" the best, and say that you and Shelly have to be on your way. Be pleasant and he will never suspect you have no clue who he is.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are figured out, don't fret, just apologize.
