How to Make a Storage Place for Wet Boots

The winter months can be difficult on your floors--with all the snow and rain outdoors, your family might be tracking some of that wetness inside on their boots. Here's an easy boot storage solution to keep the elements outside and off of your floors.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Metal tray
  • Stones

Step1
Find a metal tray that is at least 1 inch in depth and that is an appropriate length to fit the number of wet pairs of boots you need to store at one time. (It can be anything that is metal. Try a hardware store, paint store, etc.)
Step2
Fill the tray with small rocks or stones until they are evenly spread out and the tray is almost full. (You can find small stones at a hardware store, gardening center, etc.)
Step3
Put this tray just inside the entrance to your house. Ask people to remove their shoes or boots and leave them on the rocks in the tray. The water and snow will melt and drain through the rocks to the bottom of the tray. Now your floors stay dry and your boots won't sit in a puddle.
Step4
Most of the water will evaporate but clean the tray and rocks regularly to wash out any salt, dirt and other outdoor residue.
