Speak Pig-Latin

Most people today have absolutely no idea where the faux-language of Pig-Latin came from. Originally it was used by the military as a form of secret code to mask radio communications, and when they realized that the code was very easy to break, they switched to the secret Navajo code instead. If you do not recall growing up as a child and using Pig-Latin during recess, here is a memory refresher for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

    How to Speak Pig-Latin

  1. Step 1

Remove the first letter of each word and place it at the end of the word adding “ay” to it. The word “thing” would be pronounced “hing-tay.”

  2. Step 2

Vowels can be tricky. Pig-Latin will vary when it comes to vowels. For example, if you remove the first letter from a word like “away,” the proper Pig-Latin pronunciation would be “way-eeyay.”

  3. Step 3

Practice makes perfect. Like any language or verbal skill, the more you practice it, the better you will get.

  4. Step 4

Try writing out sentences to get a better grasp. You may even want to practice with a friend, both speaking to each other in Pig-Latin until you have firm grasp of the language.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more you do it, the better you will get.
  • People may think you are goofy if you practice in public.
