Many people have problems keeping track of what they spend using credit cards. The best way to do this is to create an organized system that will keep track of your purchases. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper and pencil
  • Hanging files with labels
  • Filing cabinet
  • Basket
  • Stapler
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

Make a list of all of your credit cards. Label a hanging file for each credit card you have. Put them into an easily accessible filing cabinet. Alphabetize the files so you find what you want fast.

  2. Step 2

Collect your credit card receipts. This step takes some practice if you aren’t used to keeping receipts, but it can be done. Place a basket in an area you put your purse or wallet to remind you. Immediately put the receipts into that container before you even take off your coat. When you’ve collected a few receipts, put them into the appropriate credit card files.

  3. Step 3

When you get your credit card bill, match the purchases and amounts to the detailed bill. You can catch any wrong or extra charges by doing this. You can also get a feel for what you are spending your money on. Staple the receipts to your copy of the bill for future reference.

  4. Step 4

Date each bill when you have paid it. If it was not paid in full, note how much check was for. In the case or partial payment, only attach the receipts of the paid items.

  5. Step 5

Commit to keeping up your billing system. Doing it for one month is good, but doing it for a lifetime is great.
