Decide on a design for the hats you want to buy, if you're going to have them customized. Many Little League teams are sponsored by local businesses, and the team hats will therefore probably feature the business' logo or colors. In fact, the business might be amenable to picking up the tab for the creation of the hats, if you ask.

Take stock of the head sizes of the members of your team, or elect for adjustable hats with straps at the back. If you're going to buy fitted hats, ask the parents of your team members to submit the players' hat size to you so you can relay the information to the company that's going to make the hats.

Tally up the number of hats you need, and the number of hats you need in each particular size if you're buying fitted hats. It's a good idea to add a few extra hats to your order so you have more caps on hand in the event a player's hat is lost, damaged or stolen throughout the course of the baseball season.

Find a local hat maker or sporting goods manufacturer who carries baseball team hats for Little League clubs or can customize an order for your team. Your local Yellow Pages or a simple Internet search should lead you to suitable businesses with relative ease.

Get price quotes from the various local manufacturers, if there's more than one game in town. Volume discounts are common at custom athletic apparel manufacturers, and the more hats you buy, the lower your unit cost should be.

Buy your team hats from the manufacturer offering the best value. Price isn't necessarily the only consideration. If a particular manufacturer uses higher-quality materials for a cost that's only slightly more than a hat maker that uses inferior fabrics, go with the hat maker offering better value.
