DNA Bikes is a newer BMX company that focuses on high-performance bicycles with an aggressive attitude. Featuring models with names such as Flu, Virus and Bacteria, DNA offers seven different bike models for either racing, jumping or freestyle BMX activities.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Helmet
  • Safety goggles
  • Elbow and knee pads
  • Small tool kit
Step1
Find a bike shop in your area that sells the DNA brand. DNA is a smaller company and you may have to search a bit before finding a bike shop that is convenient for you. If you have a problem with finding a dealer close to you, you may have to contact the North American distributor, Hans Johnsen Co., for additional help.
Step2
Buy the right DNA BMX bike that fits your budget and needs. If you're into BMX racing, where the bikes are much lighter and without safety features, you may want to consider such DNA models as the Pro Racer and Racer. If your BMX activities revolve around freestyle or jumping maneuvers, you may want to consider the Flu, Bacteria and Disaster models, which offer increased weight and durability.
Step3
Decide which accessories you will need when you buy a DNA BMX bike. Safety equipment such as helmets, goggles, elbow and knee pads should be considered mandatory, but you should also consider a small, portable tool kit to keep your bike up and running during races and jumps. In addition, DNA offers upgrades to some of their bikes, such as alloy-free coasters, customized saddles and pegs.
Step4
Test your DNA bike thoroughly before you buy it. Ensure that the frame is the right size for both your body type and your riding style and listen for sounds coming from the frame that may indicate a defective part or a needed adjustment. When you buy a high-performance BMX bike such as a DNA, everything should be in perfect working order before you leave the bike shop.
Step5
Check out the DNA website for pictures and descriptions of the various models (see Resources below). You can also find contact information for local and international distributors and a list of accessories and parts upgrades.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you weigh over 130 lbs., or if you are taller than 5 feet 6 inches, you may want to consider installing 24-inch rims on your BMX bicycle instead of the standard 20-inch rims.
