Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Screen or large white sheet
- DVD projector
- Bicycling movies
Step1
Bike to work. It sounds obvious, but it can prove exceptionally difficult if you're not in the right frame of mind. There are always reasons not to bike to work. Look for some of the benefits (less-stressful commutes, healthy exercise and money saved on gas) and commit to biking to work at least two or three times during the course of the week.
Step2
Join a bike club. Local organizations can help you get into the habit of biking. They plan trips with like-minded cyclists, they know good bike routes and riding paths and they can help find ways to celebrate Bike to Work Week.
Step3
Teach a kid to ride a bicycle. Kids love bikes and the process of learning to ride one is a fundamental part of childhood. Not only does teaching a child to ride a bike help celebrate Bike to Work Week, but it encourages him to continue cycling as a lifelong pursuit. See if you can teach a class on bicycle riding at a nearby school or community center.
Step4
Participate in a local race. Local cycling clubs often organize races and tournaments during events like Bike to Work Week. Check with those in your area to see if they offer anything. If they don't, take it upon yourself to organize a race, either between local cyclists you know or different cycling clubs in the area.
Step5
Organize a "Bike-In" movie screening. Set up an open area with a screen and a DVD projector. A back yard will do in a pinch, but see if you can use a local park or some other central area. Advertise the bike-in at local cycling clubs, colleges and other nearby gathering places for enthusiastic bikers. You can tie it into Bike to Work Week even further if you pick a movie that includes bicycling, such as "Breaking Away," "The Triplets of Belleville" or "E.T."Celebrate Bike to Work Week
