Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grill
  • Serving ware
  • Food
  • Drinks (alcohol, soft drinks, plenty of water)
  • Games and toys
  • Decorations
  1. Step 1

Decide whether you will throw your Labor Day BBQ at home (in your backyard) or in a public place (such as a park or campsite). This will affect your choice of food, decorations and even the number of people you can invite to attend the party.

  2. Step 2

Get all the supplies in advance. Check your grill to make sure it is clean and works properly, organize the cooking supplies and utensils and go shopping for food and drinks. If you throw the BBQ over the Labor Day weekend, you may want to get everything ready early on, as shops may open late or close early on that day.

  3. Step 3

Decorate the place to create the right mood. Hang small flags or colorful balloons, use candles or streamers or simply find a large banner that welcomes guests with a Happy Labor Day saying.

  4. Step 4

Notify people well in advance. If you are sending out virtual invitations, ask guests to RSVP. If the BBQ is something you decided on at the last minute, hold it over the Labor Day weekend but not on Labor Day per se. This will up the chances that people have the time to attend the event.

  5. Step 5

Have some souvenirs or party favors ready to give to guests. This can be as simple as a colorful pen or horn or something more expensive that you can raffle off. Party supply stores often have a large selection of Labor Day items, including server ware and centerpieces (both can double as party favors).

  6. Step 6

Throw a non-traditional BBQ by going beyond the typical hamburgers and hot dogs. Serve corn-on-the-cob, grilled veggies and shrimp along with the traditional food, or replace the menu for a mix of meats and veggie burgers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring games or toys along for guests, both children and adults. If the weather is good, think active sports such as baseball or football. For small spaces or an adults-only party, bring playing cards or music to help guests relax.
