Breakfast in bed is a traditional way to tell someone you love him. Nothing is quite so comforting as having a friend or family member get up early just to cook something special for you. It makes a person feel loved and cherished beyond words. That's why so many holidays have a breakfast-in-bed tradition associated with them. In fact, you can start a Father's Day breakfast tradition this year.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flowers
  • Vase
  • Serving tray
  • China plates and cups
  • Linen napkins
  1. Step 1

Come up with a menu in advance. A Father's Day breakfast should include two to three foods your dad loves. If you don't know what Dad's favorite breakfast foods are, ask him, but do it subtly, so that he won't suspect the surprise you have in store for him.

  2. Step 2

Wash the good china. This is a special day, and your breakfast tradition should include special serving pieces. Serving Dad with the finest china in the house shows him how much you really care.

  3. Step 3

Buy some flowers and a pretty vase. Two to three colorful blossoms in a clear crystal vase are an attractive accent to your Father's Day breakfast tray.

  4. Step 4

Bring out the linen napkins. You don't want to use paper if you're trying to make this meal special.

  5. Step 5

Get up at least an hour before your father usually awakens. Then, start cooking. If you time it right, you can bring breakfast into his bedroom just as he's opening his eyes.

  6. Step 6

Repeat this ritual every year, and you'll soon have a cherished Father's Day tradition in which your whole family can participate.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let small children help you by pouring juice, putting plates and cups on the breakfast tray and getting the condiments (such as syrup) from the pantry or refrigerator.
  • If you're not great at cooking, or if you'll be preparing something you've never made before, start practicing a week or two in advance of Father's Day. Prepare a few trial runs and serve them to other family members so you can be sure Dad gets the very best meal you can make. Family members can let you know how it all tastes and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Be sure to supervise any small children who may be helping you prepare breakfast for Dad. Don't let the kids handle hot items or knives or take anything out of the oven.
